Yesterday was our first adventure into the Barrios (very poor neighborhoods) of the town of Jinotepe.  I knew they were bad, and I have seen many pictures of slums and such but never have I actually had to see them in person.  The people were so happy to see us, and even with the language barrier we were able to pray with families and over homes put together by a few sheets of metal.  I could not imagine living like they live, but it is all they have ever known.
The kids were so full of laughter and energy it blew me away.  Half the time when I'm at home in my 4 bedroom house, I'm in a apthetic or downer mood.  These kids lived in shacks with next to nothing, and they loved life and seeing us!
After we got back to where we stayed we were able to play soccer with the locals!  Something I have looked forward to for the longest time.  It was awesome!  Of course they looked at us Americans and say "Mas Practicar (More practice)" and start laughing. lol Playing soccer with people who eat and breathe it everyday such a blessing for me!  I love these people and sharing God's love with them is so exciting. God bless!

  1. Wow it was soooooooo exciting to talk to you today!!!! Just to hear your voice. Most of all I loved hearing your concern for everyone back here. Your prayers for everyone back here and your love for where you are. You sounded at such peace that you are exactly where God wants you to be and I praise Him for that. Can’t wait to hear more. Every day I pray and picture laying you in the arms of our Great and mighty God . Love you with all my heart honey.

  2. Great to read about your adventure. If you get a chance, read a little about Elijah. (I Kings 18) God took a great man and made him greater.

  3. Hey Cody-love ur blog-you will find the same experience when you arrive in Africa! They are so grateful for your presence. They live in such poverty yet so content because as you said this is all they have known. Emma and I were so moved that the tears flowed freely at times. Continue to be open and you will be amazed by the many ways in which God will use you throughout your journey.

On the soccer note Emma won her first game and she still plays D and Nys has her first pee wee game this coming Saturday:)lol

Love you, praying for you and so very proud of you-
